making Ted so hopelessly in love with Robin right now…I know the characters belong to the writers and all so they know them better than anyone but I just….don’t buy it.  

I hope it is revealed later that Ted realized he wasn’t really in love with Robin at that moment (because I do believe he loved her at one point and don’t want to negate that) but that he was in love with the idea of them more than anything else.  That after being beaten down by the dating scene and almost sure he’d never find anyone, he just wanted to believe in the idea of love again.

But what kills this theory is Marshall’s “not yet” answer to Lily…I know he can still be wrong but this unsettles me…
